Picture This

Mack Dawg Productions Picture Thishas been putting out banging snowboard videos for almost 2 decades. Videos like The Resistance, Technical difficulties and True Life were both revolutionary in the snowboarding displayed as well as the filming/production.

This year Mack Dawg is stepping it up a notch and releasing their newest snowboard flick “Picture This” on DVD and HD-DVD (possibly the itunes store in HD as well?). This is certainly a first in the snowboard indusrty. Mack Dawg used HD Cameras when filming Picture This and you can tell by the teaser that a lot of love went into the making of this vid. There looks to be some very dynamic moving dolly and Hitchcock style compression shots along with some more common cable cam and helicopter shots. Everything look crystal clear and some of the urban shots appear to have above average lighting. The color processing looks to be very cool and I can only imagine the soundtrack and intro sequences will be of matching quality.

magnetosphere

I have never been a user of visualizers in music programs, especially itunes. While programs like winamp may have some impressive visualizers that are be fun to fool around with or leave running while you relax and listen to some tunes at home the built in itunes visualizers is fairly boring.

Enter magnetosphere.

magnetosphere

Magnetosphere is impressive and mesmerizing. It features the option of increasing and decreasing the number of particles (A and S keys) as well as increasing and decreasing magnetospheres responsiveness to the music playing (+ and - keys).

I highly suggest you download and play around with magnetosphere. Be warned that your productivity may decrease as a result.

Picli - A Screencap Tour

Picli has opened it’s doors for some with the launch of their private beta. I was lucky enough to get in on it early and grab some screencaps showing how the whole things looks and works.

Incase you have never heard of Picli, think digg for images. There are separate sections (photography, CG and “natural”) in which a user can submit creative content to be viewed and voted on. Popular images hit the “Showcase” page.

For this post keep in mind that these screencaps are not even an hour after the beta opened. Only the main page has been activated and most of the entries to this point are tests.

Showcase

Showcase

Showcase is the main page. The most popular images of the time are displayed on the left. On the right thumbnails of new submissions (upcoming) are displayed.

All images on the showcase page can be clicked and a lightbox preview will popup. I have been told lightbox is a temporary solution for the beta and that something much better is coming.

You can vote on an image from the main page by click the little tear drop. Once you vote for it (or if you submitted it) it will turn green and point upwards. While I don’t exactly know the meaning or symbolism of the raindrop, I do know that you cannot vote something down at this point.

When viewing an image you can click for a larger view, vote for it (see: digg it), comment on it or flag the image with:

-This image should have an age check
-Offensive content - Please remove
-Duplicate - Ive seen this on Picli already
-Broken link - Quoth the server…404

Submit Content

Submit Content

Submitting content is very simple. Title, image (upload it or link to it), description, tags and an option if it needs an age warning (nude photos etc.). Age verification images appear normal to users over 18. Under 18 or users who are not logged in will be unable to view the image and get slapped with this filler image:

My Gallery

My Gallery

You are able to view a gallery of all the images you have uploaded so far. At this time you are unable to view another users submitted items from their profile, I would imagine this is included in the future.
Picli has a ways to go but I am impressed that upon giving feedback on a few things I had an email response within minutes and in some cases the problems were fixed immediately.

Things I hope to see Picli address before the beta is released:

  • View other users galleries
  • Image size restrictions
  • Preview with something other than lightbox
  • Fill some of that dead space on the main page
  • Animated raindrop when you vote (I just want to see it rotate ok?)
  • Thumbnail images are awkwardly stretched or squished at times
  • Show how many votes an image has once you are viewing it
  • More on protecting a users submitted image
  • Not use Tables for the Layout

Obviously being a beta many of these things can and will be fixed or are already lined up for the official release.
